First Day of School

Hello Current Events class. I figured since you all work well with blogging, and since that's a large part of this course, that I would try my hand at it, and give you my introduction in a blog post.

Hello. My name is Ms. Forster and I'll be with you for the rest of the year. (Some of you will only be with me for three more weeks.) I'm very excited to be joining Mr. McCarthy and Miss Smith in the Social Studies Department! History is my passion and I'm thrilled to be able to share it with all of you!

A little bit about me. I grew up in North Tonawanda, NY. I graduated from North Tonawanda High School, and I'm still involved there, directing the fall musical for the Drama Club. The productions I've directed are 9 to 5: The Musical and Xanadu: The Musical. The 9 to 5  cast was fortunate enough to participate in the Kenny Awards at Sheas in May 2014. It was really fun!

I was one of those few kids who always knew what I wanted to do when I grew up, so I went right to college to begin my teaching degree. First I went to NCCC. It was close to home, saved me money, and allowed me to have a smaller college experience initially. After that, I went to Buffalo State to finish up my bachelors degree. Right now, I'm working on my masters degree at Medaille College in Special Education.

I have two brothers, Sam and Jake. Sam is 23 and Jake is 18. We also have a dog named Fenway. She's an SPCA rescue. She just had her 6th birthday in December.

Some of my favorite things. Purple and pink are my favorite colors. I believe that a little glitter never hurt anyone. The mashed potatoes from Panos are the best thing since sliced bread. I love reading. Especially historical fiction, but if you're reading something that you love let me know! I listen to Taylor Swift when I grade papers and lesson plan. I really like podcasts and Youtube. The "Stuff you Missed in History Class" podcast and "Crash Course" Youtube channels keep me in the loop with what's going on in with history and the updated things that aren't in the textbooks. I enjoy going to see musicals, and all the new movie musicals that are being made make me really happy. Old music and movies like Frank Sinatra, Elvis, and Gone with the Wind, Singin in the Rain, and White Christmas are some of my favorites. Boston, MA is hands down my favorite city to visit. It's like a smaller version of NYC with more history thrown in.

So tell me, in a comment, what are some things you love? What are you hoping for the rest of the year? (If you don't feel comfortable commenting, just write it on a piece of paper) Remember, please keep your comments polite, and respectful. :)

Have a great rest of the semester!
